Date: 1999-05-10
====================================================================

Most of the DATMAN software packages available in DATMAN's web server
are compressed using PKWARE, a popular shareware product. The ZIP
file format is one of the most common data compression format
which can be uncompressed by many programs even other than the
original PKWARE. In order to maintain the maximum compatibility,
we use PKWARE ver 2.04g --- a 16-bit (DOS) program which can be run
on almost any PC platforms.

PKZIP shareware can be accessed from http://www.pkware.com.

You can also use WINZIP, another popular shareware utility
by Niko Mak Computing, available at http://www.winzip.com.
In this article, we will explain the usage of PKZIP because
it is the original PKWARE product.

You can use any of the following three versions:

PKZIP 2.04g a 16-bit DOS program (good for DOS, Win95/98, NT)
PKZIP 2.50 a Win-32 console program (good for Win95/98, NT)
PKZIP 2.60 a Win-32 GUI program (good for Win95/98, NT)

    =======================================================================
Please note that some earlier versions of PKWARE are not compatible
with the current version (ver 2.04g). If your have PKWARE ver 1.93
(10-15-91), you will likely to receive a "Incorrect password" error
message. We have heard a strange case where PKWARE ver 4.1v with a
newer date (02-04-94) also cannot recognize the password ??????????
    =======================================================================

Since the files you download except for Freeware packages from the
DATMAN web server are typically encrypted as well as compressed, you
need to obtain the proper password for the file you are about to unzip.
The passwords are not posted on the web page, but given to you via
E-Mail in response to an on-line request.

The following examples are the command line syntax to unzip a
downloaded file.

Say the name of the file is DM2345W1.ZIP (DATMAN-99, Ver 2.34.5 1GB)
and the password is helloworld

Using PKZIP 2.04g (16-bit DOS program)

    PKUNZIP DM2345W1.ZIP -shelloworld

Note: Here, the password, "helloworld" is preceded by "-s" and
without any blank characters after "-s".

Using PKZIP 2.50 (32-bit Win32 program)

    PKZIP25 DM2345W1.ZIP -EXTRACT -PASSWORD=helloworld -EXTRACT

Using PKZIP 2.60 (32-bit GUI program)

    Click File > Open
    Specify DM2345W1.ZIP
    Click Extract > Extract_Files...
    Check (o) All files
Specify Extract to: (o) Disk, specify the destination directory
    Enter Password helloworld

Caution: The password is case-sensitive.

If you suspect the password you got is incorrect, check the
Email you received from DATMAN Download Central and make sure
the filename is correct and the password spelled correctly.

Caution: Are you sure you have recent version of PKWARE?

Some earlier versions of PKUNZIP (e.g., ver 2.01) may fail to
accept the password (error: W14). If you are using any other
version of PKWARE than those shown above, you should obtain
an up-to-date copy from PKWARE's home page.

The WinZip utility is also a popular utility which will work equally
well under Windows95/98.

If you do not understand how to unzip the DATMAN file, please find
a local expert for help. Or, purchase the PKWARE from PKWARE, INC.
and get their technical support. Please do not seek technical support
from Pixelab on how to unzip the download file.
