The following Tape drives may work but have not been thoroughly tested.
Brand Model Class Comment beta status
---------------------------------------------------------------------
HP 35450A 4mm (does not work)
Sony SDT-1000 4mm (does not work)
Wangtek 6130 4mm (does not work, maybe supported in the future)
Wangtek 6200 4mm (does not work, maybe supported in the future)
WangDAT 1300 4mm (does not work)
WangDAT 2600 4mm (does not work)
Exabyte 8200 8mm Not suitable (lacks fast seek capability)
Exabyte 8205 8mm Not supported
The first three models listed above are of the first generation DDS
drives. The respective manufacturers do not support these models
despite known bugs on the firmware. These drives are slow and not
reliable at best. We discourage the use of these drives.
The following Tape drives will NOT work with DATMAN
----------------------------------------------------
QIC, W-QIC, Travan, DLT, Ditto, Tandberg, JVC
Gigatrend, Teac, Sankyo, Viper, Trakker
======== Attention :: if your drive is not listed above =========
In addition to be a tape-based file system, DATMAN also functions
as a tape control program in a limited sense. As long as the tape
drive is capable of communicating with DATMAN via the appropriate
system interface (SCSI or EIDE), DATMAN can at least perform some
basic tape control functionality, such as Rewind, Eject, and Read.
Sometimes, these commands are sufficient to allow limited control of
the tape drive even though it may not fully function as a DATMAN tape
system. You may use DATMAN to access the raw data on a tape written
by a tape backup program other than DATMAN. For example, you may
transfer files from TAR tapes using a tape drive which is not fully
DATMAN-compatible. For details, refer to TB #009 .
